Who we are.
So Delish is the result of our non-baby clientele who fell in love with our ‘baby-food’ when Baby Delish was launched.
The goal has always been to connect people to great local, organic, ethically raised food. If we can minimize our ecological footprint by supporting our local farmers and waste less of what’s grown, our planet will be a better place. So Delish had earned Foodland Ontario recognition and certificaton for providing products exclusively sourced from Ontario farms.
Our original Baby Delish single ingredient purees are still sold in frozen offerings, as well as fresh made and meals by special order. The uses for these purees are endless. All of our food is sourced from organic, Ontario farms. If it’s not grown in Ontario, and not organic, you won’t find it in our products.
The amazing flavours of the frozen purees have been purposed for flavouring oatmeal, yogurts, topping toast and waffles as a sugar-free jam alternative, starting soups and sauces, and creating mouthwatering marinades and desserts. The list of possibilities is endless! Seasonally, at market, we are selling frozen pureed fruit freezies which are a perfect guilt-free treat.
In 2018, we had the opportunity to partner with one of our supplier farms by getting stuck in on the farm. What an incredible experience that was! Starting at the beginning of the season, we prepped seedlings for local plant sales and then things very quickly went full tilt. Our gracious farmer Brenda Knechtel shared her expertise and wealth of knowledge while working side by side in the fields.
Strawberry season ushered in another arm of So Delish. A zealous picking of the strawberry patch left Brenda with an abundance of beautiful, ripe strawberries that had no homes to go to. Some quick text messages to friends and family, soon found homes for 2 flats of the berries, and hence humble beginnings of So Delish’s fresh farm produce delivery was germinated. Each week during the growing season, a list of excess produce from out supplier farms is generated, and offered to folks to order for either market pick up or home delivery. In the 2018 season, we found homes for over $3000 of excess farm produce! That’s countless hours of seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting work that would have gone into the compost heap.
Working on the farm also gave us insight into exactly how much never even makes it off the farm. The desire to reduce waste lead to an on-field brainstorming session where our dehydrated line was conceived. Dehydrated food has a much longer shelf life, and our products make using them so easy and tasty!
