1 Black Magic Dino kale. Black Magic is a winter-hardy kale with long and narrow, crinkled leaves, so dark green they’re almost black! Its rich flavor that only improves with frost. If you’re impatient to harvest, go for it–you can use it as a baby leaf kale or wait until its mature stage. This particular variety of kale makes excellent kale chips! Bake with a splash of oil and your favorite spice mix. Plant in rich, well-drained soil in full sunlight in the spring or the fall. 60 days to maturity
1 Lacinato Dino kale. Also known as Dinosaur or Tuscan Kale, this Italian heirloom dates back to the 18th century, and is an essential ingredient of caldo verde (green broth), a popular soup in Portugal. By whatever name, the sweeter, milder, blue-green, heavily crinkled strap leaves impart excellent flavor, especially harvested young and after first frost.
1 Dazzling Blue kale plant. It is a lacinato (aka dinosaur) type kale with blue-green savoyed (wavy) leaves that turn under at the edges, and a bright pink stem in the middle. 60 days.
